You are invited to our screenplay competition with the subject FAKE NEWS.
The subject of this year’s competition is
Can you choose your own truth? Can the spreading of lies topple a democracy?
False news has always been a part of the media, but the term fake news recently gained worldwide attention after the revealing of the systematic spreading in relation to the 2016 presidential election in the United States.

We are continuing the tradition with having a screenplay competition where we look at the screenplay as its own artistic expression. The theme of the year is chosen as a part of the Amandus UTTERENCE section, where questions regarding democracy and freedom of speech is discussed in relation to our modern media society.
Selected contributions are selected to participate in a workshop during the Amandus festival in April, where the writers will work with a professional screenwriter. This workshop will mainly be held in Norwegian, so it is recomended that you have some knowledge of one of the Scandinavian languages.
The projects will during the workshop be prepared for a pitch, which will be presented for the jury during the festival.
We are also pleased to continue the collaboration with Lillehammer based screenwriter Arild Tryggestad from the production company Filmbin, who recently have made international success with the critically acclaimed youth film Los Bando. He will lead the workshop and help them make the best possible screenplay.
In the competition, everyone under the age of 26 from the Nordic countries can participate. The best contributions will be selected, and the writers will be invited to a screenplay workshop with a professional writer.
